Simple Past Tense

A. Pengertian Simple Past Tense

    Simple past tense adalah kalimat tenses yang digunakan untuk menyatakan kejadian yang terjadi di masa lampau dan telah berakhir di masa lampau.

   Dalam kalimat simple past tense, kata kerja / verb yang digunakan merupakan bentuk kata kerja  kedua. Terdapat 2 jenis kata kerja / Verb, yakni Regular Verb dan Irregular Verb.

>>> Untuk regular verb, tambahkan -ed / -d dibelakang setelah kata kerja bentuk pertama.
Contoh :
   Stay -> stayed (Tinggal)
   Punch -> Punched (Memukul)
   Play -> Played (Bermain)
   Touch -> Touched (Menyentuh)
   Write -> Writed (Menulis)

>>> Untuk Irregular verb , termasuk di dalamnya to be, bentuk kata kerja keduanya sangat berbeda.
Contoh :
   Awake -> Awoke (Terbangun)
   Begin -> Began (Memulai)
   Drink -> Drank (Minum)
   Eat -> ate (Makan)
   Run -> ran (Berlari)

>>> Ada sebagian Irregular verb yang memiliki bentuk kata kerja yang sama dengan bentuk kata kerja dasar.
Contoh :
  Put -> Put (Meletakkan)
  Split -> Split (Membagi)
  Spread -> Spread (Menyebarkan)
  Set -> Set (Mengatur)
  Cut -> Cut (Memotong)

=> SIMPLE PAST, KATA KERJA TIDAK BERATURAN

~> TO GO
   - He went to a club last night
   - Did he go to the cinema last night?      
   - Hedidn't go to bed early last night.

~> TO GIVE
   - We gave her a doll for her birthday
   - They didn't give John their new address
   - Did Barry give you my passport?

~> TO COME
   - My parents came to visit me last July
   - We didn't come because it was raining
   - Did he come to your party last week?

B. Rumus & Contoh Simple Past Tense

(+) S + Verb 2 + O
Contoh :
=> Abdul went to Bali for holiday last Sunday (Minggu kemarin, Abdul pergi ke Bali untuk berlibur)


(-) S + did + not + Verb 1
                  atau
(-) S + To Be (Was / Were) + not
Contoh:
=> I did not sleep well last night, (Aku tidak bisa tidur dengan nyenyak, tadi malam)

(?) Did + S + Verb 1
             atau
(?) Was / Were + S
Contoh:
=> Did you see my bag on the table ? (Apakah kamu melihat tas ku di atas meja ?)
